Kent Karrier

Kent Karrier

The Kent Karrier scheme is a fully accessible dial-a-ride service which takes disabled and elderly people directly from their door to the nearest town centre or supermarket.

This ensures that vulnerable people can purchase their weekly groceries, get the chemists or the bank, and socialise with friends on the trip. After a couple of hours in town, with time for a cup of coffee and bite to eat, passengers are taken back to their homes with their shopping bags. Assistance is given where required to get on and off the vehicle, and all vehicles on the service are wheelchair accessible.

Membership is open to individuals who are aged 85 or over; those with a registered disability or mobility issues; and anyone who lives in a rural area more than 500m from the nearest bus stop or railway station. There is a £5 annual administration fee for members and a small subsidised fare is charged for each return journey.

The scheme is administered by Kent County Council, and Compaid delivers the service on behalf of KCC in seven districts: Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge & Malling, Sevenoaks, Maidstone, Swale, Ashford and North West Kent. In North West Kent, Maidstone and Sevenoaks, the Kent Karrier scheme also includes a dial-a-ride service, which can be pre-booked up to seven days in advance for any journey within the district. Journeys on these services can be for any reason, including hospital or other medical appointments.

For more details about the Kent Karrier service in your districts, including areas covered on particular days of the week, please look at your local scheme leaflet, which can be downloaded from the relevant link below.

For membership enquiries, please call Kent County Council on 03000 413 567 or download and print the application form here and return it to KCC.
